The American-born trombonist Leon Ni has been soloist with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg since 2004. Before his arrival in Luxembourg, he spent three years as the section principal trombone of the Orchestra of Scottish Opera and one year with the Orchestre Nacional do Porto in Portugal.
He studied music at Boston University with Ronald Barron (former principal, Boston Symphony) and at Temple University with Nitzan Haroz (principal trombone, The Philadelphia Orchestra). Afterwards, he furthered his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, London, studying with Ian Bousfield (former principal of the Vienna Philharmonic) and Dudley Bright (principal trombone of the London Symphony Orchestra). He also learned sackbut with Sue Addison.
Leon ist leidenschaftlicher Kammermusiker und Gründungsmitglied des Blechbläserquintetts Ni Ensemble. In der Alten Musik Szene hat er u. a. mit dem Ensemble Piffaro gespielt.
